Call to Artists Across New England!
The beautiful village of Franconia NH successfully completed its third year of the “ArtWalk”. We received many compliments from local citizens and visitors. New Hampshire Magazine featured our ArtWalk in their November 2020 issue. Over 2,000 copies of our map/brochures were distributed. You can view the 2021 map/brochure here.
The Franconia ArtWalk is a long-term outdoor display of artwork officially opening July 4th weekend and closing Columbus Day weekend. Jury selection is done in early March and artist notification goes out the week ending March 19th. Art installation begins the week of April 17th and is completed by June 24th.
ArtWork needs to be removed by the end of October 2022. Our association will provide a mounting base(s), help with installation and removal, provide appropriate landscaping. A plaque identifying the artist, the art work’s title, where the artist is from, if desired, the artist’s website and a QR Code. Our website includes an interactive map that will direct the viewer to detailed information about the artist and their artwork on the Exhibit tab of our website. The QR code plaque at each location, when scanned, will take the viewer to the detailed information on our website’s Exhibit tab. We will also provide a stipend based on the distance traveled (see Stipend Table) to help artists with their travel related expenses.
One portion of our “Art Walk” stretches almost 1/2 mile along Main Street paralleling the scenic Gale River from the Lafayette School to the Franconia Heritage Museum. Our historic buildings, scenery and gardens provide an interesting backdrop for your artwork. Another portion of the ArtWalk meanders along the Gale River on the newly enhanced River Walk and provides a beautiful, peaceful setting for visitors to enjoy the artwork. Artwork is also displayed along Academy Street on a scenic neighborhood loop that includes beautiful views of Mount Lafayette and the historic Dow Academy building.
The Franconia ArtWalk Association, the ArtWalk sponsor, is regional organization focused on developing art related attractions for people of all ages and abilities. Inspired by nature and the arts, the Association promotes tourism and enhances the artistic aspects of our local communities.
Our walk will give you exposure to a wide variety of people because the walk is accessible to individuals of all physical abilities. Additionally, we to encourage artists of varied mediums and hope to include works of granite, bronze, ceramic, tile, paint, mosaic, stained glass, etc. with the only real limitation being that they must be able to withstand outdoor exposure for at least one year.
