“Autumn Blooms” seamlessly blends forged steel and wood-fired clay. It is a collaborative work from two NH artists, Mike Platt and Sarah Burns.

Sarah Burns has lived and worked in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire for the last 25 years.  She was first introduced to clay in college and then went on to work in several clay studios.  Sarah began teaching and sharing her love of clay in several community based schools, institutions and her own studio.  She became a juried member of the League of NH Craftsmen in 2003 where she has exhibited, showed at the League of NH Craftsmen’s Fair, and collaborated with other artists.  She has exhibited locally and nationally throughout her career.

For over 40 years, Mike Platt has been forging metal in the fire as a blacksmith, farrier, and a custom mokume gane jewelry maker.  He first trained as a farrier in the early 80’s and his forging skills were honed at the racetracks, polo fields, and backyard barns of Pennsylvania and Connecticut before moving to New Hampshire in 2001.   He is passionate about teaching kids and adults the art and tradition of blacksmithing at his home forge in Easton, New Hampshire as well as small group classes at the Littleton Studio School.   He has exhibited at the Gallery at WREN and the Schuylkill County Council for the Arts.
