The characters of “Message” are letters from a clay alphabet I made when my daughter was learning to read years ago. This year as I played with this alphabet, I discovered these particular characters wanted to gather together on a rainbow in the White Mountains to become “Message”.
We’re all shining on the spectrum of life in our own ways.
Throughout decades of working with clay, I’ve enjoyed combining clay forms with other materials to emphasize the concepts of my sculptures. The many materials of “Message” (clay, wood, metal, cloth and paper) were great fun to put together with the help of my family, who all advised me in the creative process and contributed skilled labor as well.
