The marble sculpture “Arctic Ice” was created by me to commemorate the critical importance and integral relationship of the Arctic to our well-being and our global environment. “Arctic Ice” has a cascade of jagged edges along the side of natural stone to symbolize the melting of the Arctic ice. The center hole allows the viewer to look through the “Ice” to see the ground behind, simulating the disappearing permafrost. The sculpture also evokes the beauty of the naturally occurring ice forms –arches, walls, caverns – that populate the polar glaciers.
